How it is calculated
- The 7 day waiting period comes first, and your benefit days count from the next day. Round 1 covers 8 days and every later round covers 28 days. Source: Employment Insurance Act Articles 49 and 50.
- The law lets the center set check-in days between 1 and 4 weeks after your report (Article 44, paragraph 2). This tool follows the handbook example: round 1 is 14 days after your application, then every 4 weeks.
- Benefits are paid within 12 months from the day after your job loss (Article 48, paragraph 1). If that period ends first, your schedule gets shorter.
- The in person rounds follow the 2026 handbook. Other rules, such as for daily construction workers, are not calculated.
- Online filing is sent on the check-in day itself, from 00:00 to 17:00. Morning is recommended, and you should check for the completion text message (2026 handbook).
